Why Nutritional Therapy?

'Treat the patient, not the disease' Hippocrates

I'm Beth, I'm a Nutritional Therapist. Of course I eat my greens, I wouldn't touch a McDonald's, and I know that keeping a close eye on my mental health is the best course of action on any given day. Generally speaking, I feel pretty good!

So why then, with everything I 'know', was I floored by my annual functional blood test report?

Vitamin D levels, catastrophic. Metabolism on burn out levels. Blood sugar out of control.

Maybe I feel invincible. Maybe I think I know myself, or maybe life gets in the way.

The point is, when it comes to your health, my health, there shouldn't be any excuses. Clearly I don't know my own limits, and despite feeling 'good enough' most of the time, I haven't taken the time to look at the minutia, the tiny details that make a difference between getting up to run a mile and being ready to run a marathon (metaphorically speaking of course, I hate running).

Luckily for me I've had my microbiome analysed to the Nth degree, and I know my genetics inside and out, so I can see the bigger picture, and I know my vulnerabilities. However it would seem that despite my 'best' efforts, simply knowing this stuff isn't enough, and I need to get back to fixing those tiny details that I thought I was on top of.

In the end, the genes don't lie, and sadly often our environment is more powerful than we give it credit for. Together they tell us exactly where we're going if we don't watch ourselves. So from today I'm taking the scenic route, checking every beautiful box I can find to get to that perfect destination of exceptionally good health. Luckily for me, everything I need is already in my kitchen cupboard.

What you know is such as small part of maintaining good health. Its the daily commitment to yourself that makes the difference to where you end up.

Nutritional therapy acts like a road map. We can see where you started, and where you want to be, and we are the guidance that makes sure you don't get lost along the way.
